Mission:

To help nurture artistic talent, to provide a place to teach, learn, exhibit and perform in an environment that bolsters community, to bring together people of diverse cultures for a common cause, "The Arts".

About Us:

Alcott is a mutual respect environment, everyone must interact with others in our facility in a positive way, no ridiculing, no talking bad of others, no abuse to others of any kind. Our goal has been to create an environment where interacting  with others opens doors. 2008 will see several new children's programs, plays for all ages( starting with "Little Women"), a new ceramic's studio and all of the free events we have become known for.
"EVERYTHING POSITIVE - NOTHING NEGATIVE"

Our building first opened in 1923 as Louisa May Alcott Grade School, serving the Kansas City, Kansas public school system in that capacity until 1976. The L. M. Alcott Grade school welcomed a lot of children into its rooms in the many years after it opened.

Now this old school enters the new century with a new name and a new mission.

That mission is to bring our community together by creating Artistic Opportunities, to draw people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities together, to share the varied talents and treasures of our separate and joint heritages, to provide a place for educational, exhibition and performance programs and to connect Kansas City, Kansas with the larger National Arts Community.

The former classrooms of this charming building are up to the task. The Galleries regularly display exhibitions of the visual arts, from local children's works to those of professional artists and crafters.
Our 75 seat theatre provides the performing arts a home for performances. Many  have joined us over the years. Other rooms are in use for classes and workshops in dance, drama, music, arts and crafts. Spring, Summer and Fall class schedules will provide opportunities for learning and enjoyment.

The L. M. Alcott Art Center Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3),509(a)(2) Public Charity dedicated to the appreciation, understanding, and production of the arts, with an emphasis on exploring and sharing the cultural diversity within our community.

The Alcott Arts Center, as it is known today has just started our seventh year. We are proud to say that due to community support we have:

Giving several theater groups, artists, teachers and instructors artistic opportunities thru a positive environment. Over the years we have held city wide community functions such as City Wide Acoustical Jam Session with Cross Currants, Alcott's Shakespeare in the Parking Lot, a two day City Wide event in the summer of 2005. Provided a warm and nurturing place for the S.T.A.R.S. theater program for children ages 3 thru 18 years old. In 2006 The Alcott Arts Center placed number two with K. C. Stage Magazine for Community Theatre in the KC Metro area. According to K. C. Stage we also took 4th place in theater productions city wide in all categories. Our play was "House of Yes" and was spectacular! It ran for three weeks in June of 2006 in the Alcott Theatre! Our all volunteer cast and crew proved to be more than the best!

S..T.A.R.S. rehearsed their original plays written by the Founder/Director Michelle McClaine and perform on the Alcott stage at the end of each session with a fundraiser for the Alcott. Our partnership has been incredible, it has given Alcott the opportunity to establish our Alcott Children's Educational Fund(ACEF). The children fund their own programming, and they love knowing that. The ACEF is only used for programs or costs related to our children's programming, in the form of back round checks for instructors and scholarships for area children. The L.M. Alcott Art Center Foundation granted four scholarships in 2006 for tuition cost towards the S.T.A.R.S. program.

We partner with a wide range of Arts groups and have helped several along the way, also providing individuals their Artistic Opportunities.  Our Exhibiting Artists come from a multi-state area and offer a wide range of talent. They bring incredible works of Art to the Alcott for all to enjoy
The Alcott Arts Center offers  TWO FREE PUBLIC EVENTS  monthly, one on the Second Saturday  and the other (open jam session) on the last Saturday of each month.

We invite you to join us by becoming a member or by donating to our cause.

 ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT!
