Second Saturday's Art Exhibition Featuring Tracy Majkol

  • Alcott Arts Center 180 South 18th Street Kansas City, KS, 66102 United States (map)

Tracy Majkol is a lifelong photographer starting as a hobbyist using his Mom's old Kodak Brownie box camera at around the age of 10. He disassembled, cleaned, and got the camera working well and started a lifelong passion. He taught himself the tricks and techniques through books and experimentation starting with that Brownie, progressed to a $100 second hand 35mm SLR, learned darkroom techniques using handed down vintage equipment from his grandfather, and continued through several generations of film cameras and into the digital realm. He continues to shoot both film and digital, at times combining both media.

Tracy has over the years progressed from hobbyist to professional (selling prints to friends in high school, photographing events and performances for paid and gratis, and to full professional). His genre of photography is as he describes “whatever catches my fancy”. Some of his favorite forms of photography include naturescapes, cityscapes, macro/closeup photography, masquerade/cosplay, dance, theater, burlesque, and pinup. He has an eye for finding compositions that make unique and compelling images whether that might be a colony of ants along an urban trail, intriguing shapes and lines of architectural details, a stunning sunset, or the human form.

Storytelling has always been an important aspect of photography. Incorporating this more into his art he has turned an eye toward editorial photography dealing with contemporary issues. That was the inspiration of “Hands Off” which is part of this exhibit and created to be in the 2024 KC Fringe Festival visual arts show. He will be creating another timely story for the 2025 KC Fringe to be on display July 06 – 26, 2025.
